Where is Sajek Valley located?

Sajek is a union in Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati district. Sajek is the largest union in the Chittagong division in terms of size. The distance from Khagrachari Sadar to Sajek is 70 km, 49 km from Dighinala, and 34 km from Baghaihat. Although Sajek is located in Rangamati district, the communication system is good through Khagrachari.

Best time to visit Sajek?

Best time to visit Sajek is autumn-winter (August-November) after the monsoon and before winter. A lot of clouds are found then. Besides, Sajek can be visited all year round.

When does the military escort start?

Escort starts from Dighinala at 10 am and 3 pm. Escorts start at 10 am and 3 pm from Sajek as well. One cannot go to Sajek alone without an escort. Remember, if you miss the afternoon escort, you will not be able to go to Sajek that day.

Is there any local transport from Khagrachari to Sajek?

No. From Khagrachari you have to reserve Jeep/CNG/Bike to go to Sajek. If it is a group of 2-6 people, try to reserve a jeep with another tourist group.

Is it possible to drive a personal car to Sajek? Safe?

Yes, you can. But if you don’t have experience driving on hilly roads, it is better not to take your own car. Go by bike if you have confidence in driving yourself. Remember, there are no more filling stations after Khagrachari.

There is no dhaka to sajek bus service. First you have to go to khagrachori by bus then sajek by jeep.

Shanti, Shyamoli, Hanif, Econo, Khadija, Desh Travels, and other AC and non-AC buses travel from Dhaka to Khagrachari.

Shanti Paribahan directly goes to Dighinala.

Chander Gari/Jeep Rental Advice

  • An extra 500 tk will be added for the afternoon Escort.
  • For Sajek Entry 20 Tk/Person and 100 Tk/Jeep have to pay.
  • There is a jeep counter in Khagrachari where you can reserve the jeep and the fare is fixed. If you want to stay more than two nights, find out in advance how much extra you will have to pay.
  • Jeep can carry 10-13 people.
  • Normally, Jeeps are also available at Khagrachari/Dighinala. However, if you go on holiday, it is better to reserve a jeep in advance.
  • It takes about 3 hours to go from Khagrachari to Sajek and 2.30 hours from Dighinala.
  • If you are in a small group, you can go to the jeep counter and try to join another group. This will save the cost of reserving the entire jeep.

Khagrachari to Sajek Bike Fare

You can go by bike if you are alone/two people. In that case, it is better to get up from Dighinala instead of from Khagrachari. The bike will cost 2000+ taka from Dighinala. (Two people can ride on one bike)

Runmoy Resort

Runmoy has three rooms on the ground floor. The rent for each is Tk 4450. Each room can accommodate 2 people. You can get an extra bed for 600 Tk.

There are two rooms on the 1st floor, the rent is Tk. 4950. Each room can accommodate two people. You can also buy an extra bed for 600 Tk. There are four tents and four people can stay in each tent for Tk 2850.

Resort Booking Advice

  • There is no need to book a resort in advance except on holidays/days that may be overcrowded. There are adequate resorts. You can book the resort by going there. However, if you are a family or a large group, then it’s safe to make a reservation in advance.
  • Try to stay at a resort with a good view from the room.

Food

Montana Restaurant food is quite famous in Sajek, you can try their food. There is also another restaurant to explore.

Kanglak Para

Sajek’s last village is Kanglakpara. It’s located in Sajek Union, Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati District.

It is the highest peak in Sajek Valley. Its height is about 1800 feet from the sea level.

Kanglakpara is a hill village on top of Kanglak Hill two kilometers from Ruiluipara.

Kanglakpara can be reached by trekking for 30 to 40 minutes from Sajek’s helipad.

Lusai and Tripura communities also live in this village.

From Kanglakpara you can see the Lusai Hills of India, from where the Karnaphuli River originates.

Mizoram state border of India is quite close to Kanglak, about 2 hours walking distance.

Travel Tips

  • Don’t throw chocolates at children on the way through the jeep.
  • Photography is prohibited at Baghaihat Army Camp.
  • We are guests in Sajek. Don’t do anything that hurts the local culture.
  • Kanglak Para can be climbed by everyone, but when it rains, the path becomes slippery.
  • There is a steep hill of 80/85 degree angle while going to Kamalak Jharna. Don’t go if you are not used to trekking.
  • Be careful while sliding at Risang Jharna. Many accidents happen here.
  • Don’t put the whole group in danger by doing something too adventurous.
  • Sajek has litter bins at various locations. Do not litter.
  • Every meal must be ordered in advance.
  • It is better to fix the resort, and jeep in advance.
  • Only the Robi SIM network is available.
  • There is no electricity in Sajek but there is a generator/solar panel. The generator facility will depend on which resort/cottage you stay at. It is better to use a power bank.
  • Be careful while going on the Chader Gari roof. Even a little carelessness can lead to great danger.
  • Be it a group of boys or just girls. Sajek has no security issues.
